Overview

ABR-238901 is a small molecule inhibitor of the S100A8/A9 protein complex (also known as calprotectin), developed by Active Biotech. S100A8 and S100A9 are calcium-binding proteins that form a heterodimer and act as alarmins, triggering innate immune responses through receptors such as TLR4 and RAGE. By specifically inhibiting the S100A8/A9 heterodimer, ABR-238901 aims to mitigate excessive inflammation and metabolic disturbances associated with acute inflammatory conditions. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that ABR-238901 can significantly reduce mortality, improve cardiac function, and dampen acute inflammation in mouse models of fulminant myocarditis (FM). It belongs to the quinoline-3-carboxamide class of compounds, which are known for their immunomodulatory properties.
