Overview

Abrax is a sirolimus-eluting coronary stent system developed by Rontis Medical for the treatment of coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease. The device consists of a cobalt-chromium stent platform coated with a biocompatible polymer that facilitates the controlled release of sirolimus (also known as rapamycin). Sirolimus acts as a potent immunosuppressant and antiproliferative agent by inhibiting the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, which prevents the migration and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells. This mechanism effectively reduces neointimal hyperplasia, thereby minimizing the risk of restenosis following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or endovascular procedures.
