Abrezekimab (formerly known as VR942) is a biologic immunomodulatory drug developed for the treatment of severe inflammatory respiratory diseases such as asthma. It is a high-affinity antibody fragment designed for inhalation and targets interleukin-13 (IL-13), acting as an antagonist to this cytokine. The inhaled formulation allows for rapid onset of action at lower doses compared to systemic administration. Clinical studies have demonstrated pharmacological engagement with the IL-13 target in the airways and significant attenuation of anti-inflammatory biomarkers in patients with mild asthma[1][3][4][5][7]. The drug was originally developed by Vectura and UCB.
