Overview

Absinthium, derived from the perennial herb *Artemisia absinthium* (commonly known as wormwood), is traditionally used in various cultures for its medicinal properties, including the treatment of digestive disorders and diabetes. In clinical and in vitro research, absinthium extracts have been evaluated for their antioxidant capacity and potential antidiabetic effects. Studies have shown that while absinthium contains significant phenolic compounds and exhibits radical scavenging activity against DPPH and hydrogen peroxide, it may not significantly inhibit glucose diffusion across the gastrointestinal tract in certain in vitro models. It is also historically significant as a primary ingredient in the spirit absinthe.
