**Absorb BVS** is an everolimus-eluting, bioresorbable vascular scaffold developed by Abbott for temporary endovascular support and local antiproliferative drug delivery. The implant consists of a poly-L-lactide scaffold with a poly-D,L-lactide drug matrix that releases everolimus, which suppresses mechanistic target of rapamycin signaling to limit vascular smooth-muscle-cell proliferation and neointimal hyperplasia. It was studied for treatment of tibial atherosclerotic lesions in critical limb ischemia after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and was also marketed for coronary artery disease. Abbott discontinued global sales of the first-generation Absorb scaffold system in 2017; the later Esprit BTK system is a distinct successor product and is not an alias of Absorb BVS.
