Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Absorica (CIP-isotretinoin) is a specialized oral formulation of the retinoid isotretinoin, developed by Cipher Pharmaceuticals using patented Lidose technology. It is indicated for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne in patients 12 years of age and older who are unresponsive to conventional therapy, including systemic antibiotics. Unlike traditional isotretinoin formulations that require a high-fat meal for optimal absorption, Absorica provides more consistent therapeutic blood levels under both fed and fasted conditions. The drug works by binding to and activating retinoic acid receptors, which leads to a significant reduction in sebaceous gland size and sebum output, inhibition of *Cutibacterium acnes* colonization, and anti-inflammatory effects.
