ABT-107 is a potent and highly selective small molecule agonist of the **alpha-7 neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR)**. Developed by **Abbott Laboratories** (now **AbbVie**), it was designed to address cognitive impairments by enhancing cholinergic neurotransmission. The compound exhibits high affinity for both rat and human alpha-7 receptors (Ki of 0.2-0.6 nM) and demonstrates significant selectivity (greater than 100-fold) over other nicotinic receptor subtypes and neurotransmitter receptors. ABT-107 has been investigated in preclinical and early clinical studies for the treatment of **Alzheimer's disease**, **cognitive deficits associated with schizophrenia**, and potential neuroprotective effects in **Parkinson's disease**. In Phase 1 clinical trials, it demonstrated nonlinear pharmacokinetics with a half-life of 7-10 hours and was generally well-tolerated in healthy volunteers.
