Overview

ABTHER is an antimalarial injection containing alpha-beta arteether (artemotil), a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin. Developed by Greenlife Pharmaceuticals and manufactured by Indasi Lifescience, it is indicated for the treatment of severe malaria, including cerebral malaria. The mechanism of action involves the cleavage of the drug's internal endoperoxide bridge by heme-iron within the parasite's food vacuole, generating reactive free radicals that alkylate and damage essential parasitic proteins and lipids. It is specifically formulated as an oily solution for intramuscular administration.
