Overview

ABV-1701 (Vitargus) is an injectable, in-situ-forming hydrogel composed of oxidized hyaluronic acid (oxi-HA) and adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH). It is designed as a biodegradable vitreous substitute for use during vitrectomy surgery to treat retinal detachment and other conditions requiring ocular endotamponade. Unlike traditional gas or silicone oil tamponades, Vitargus forms a stable semisolid gel that adheres to the retina and maintains its position without requiring patients to remain face-down post-surgery. The hydrogel is fully biodegradable and does not require surgical removal. Early clinical studies indicate it improves patient comfort and visual acuity during recovery compared to current products[1][3][5][6][7][8].
