Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AC-170 is a novel ophthalmic (topical ocular) formulation of cetirizine, the active ingredient in Zyrtec. Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer that competitively binds to histamine receptor sites, reducing swelling, itching, and vasodilation. AC-170 was developed specifically for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis. It represents the first time cetirizine has been formulated for topical application in the eye. The drug has demonstrated statistically significant efficacy in Phase 3 clinical trials using a conjunctival allergen challenge model and showed similar safety profiles to placebo. AC-170 is marketed under the brand name Zerviate for allergic conjunctivitis.
