AC-186

AC-186 is a proprietary, selective estrogen receptor beta (ER-β) agonist developed by ACADIA Pharmaceuticals. It was designed as a neuroprotective agent for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), particularly progressive forms of the disease. Unlike non-selective estrogen agonists, AC-186 targets the ER-β pathway to provide neuroprotection without the toxicity or side effects associated with the ER-α pathway, such as breast or uterine tissue stimulation. Preclinical research, conducted in collaboration with UCLA, has focused on its efficacy in MS animal models and its pharmacokinetic profile to address the unmet need for neuroprotective therapies in progressive MS neurodegeneration.
