Overview

AC-701 is a small molecule drug developed by TWi Biotechnology for the treatment of immune-related skin disorders, particularly exanthema and rosacea. It acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting the release of interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α) and interleukin-8 (IL-8), both of which are proinflammatory cytokines implicated in skin inflammation. AC-701 has demonstrated antibiotic and anti-inflammatory activities, with in vitro evidence showing its ability to prevent secretion of inflammatory cytokines associated with epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor (EGFRI)-induced skin toxicity. The drug is administered topically as a gel formulation and has reached phase II clinical trials for exanthema and rosacea, including use in managing EGFRI-induced acneiform rash[1][2][3].
