Overview
AC-OLE-06 is an investigational liquid formulation of tricaprilin (glyceryl trioctanoate), a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) being developed by Cerecin for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Tricaprilin acts as a ketogenic precursor; upon oral administration, it is hydrolyzed in the gastrointestinal tract and metabolized by the liver into ketone bodies, such as beta-hydroxybutyrate. These ketone bodies cross the blood-brain barrier and serve as an alternative energy source for neurons in patients with Alzheimer's disease, whose brains often exhibit impaired glucose metabolism (cerebral hypometabolism). AC-OLE-06 is part of a series of optimized 'OLE' (oil-based) formulations designed to enhance the pharmacokinetic profile and improve gastrointestinal tolerability compared to earlier MCT-based products like AC-1202 (Axona).
