Overview

AC133 (also referred to as CD133+ cells) is an autologous, bone marrow-derived stem cell therapy developed by the **Royan Institute** for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The therapy consists of a population of hematopoietic and progenitor stem cells that express the surface antigen CD133 (AC133), which are isolated from the patient's own bone marrow. Administered via intracoronary injection following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), these cells are intended to home to the infarcted myocardium to promote neoangiogenesis, reduce adverse cardiac remodeling, and improve overall heart function and tissue perfusion. Clinical evaluation has included Phase 2/3 trials comparing AC133+ cells against bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (MNCs) and placebo.
