AC607 is an allogeneic, bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy developed by AlloCure for the prevention and treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI). The therapy was primarily investigated in patients undergoing on-pump cardiac surgery who are at high risk for post-operative renal complications. AC607 functions by leveraging the immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties of MSCs, which are thought to migrate to the site of injury and secrete paracrine factors that promote tissue repair and reduce inflammation. Despite receiving FDA Fast Track designation and showing promise in Phase 1, a Phase 2 multicenter trial (ACT-AKI) was terminated, and development of the candidate appears to have ceased.
