Acacia refers to natural products derived from trees of the Acacia genus. Primarily, Acacia gum (also known as Gum Arabic), a complex polysaccharide harvested from Acacia seyal or Acacia senegal, is a highly soluble dietary fiber. It is widely used as a food additive and dietary supplement, functioning as a prebiotic to modulate gut microbiota and influence metabolic and inflammatory markers. Another distinct product, Acacia catechu, is utilized for its antiplaque and antigingivitis properties, often in topical applications like mouthrinses or gels.
