Acacia catechu is a deciduous tree belonging to the Fabaceae family, indigenous to India, other Asian countries, and East Africa. The extract from its heartwood and bark contains various bioactive compounds including flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins that contribute to its medicinal properties. It possesses antimicrobial, antidiarrheal, antinociceptive, antihyperlipidemic, antiulcer, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antiproliferative, hemolytic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
