acacia longifolia pollen

Acacia longifolia pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Sydney golden wattle (*Acacia longifolia*) tree. [1, 5] It is a biologic product used for both the diagnosis and immunotherapy of allergies caused by sensitization to this pollen. The mechanism of action involves modulating the immune system to induce tolerance in patients with IgE-mediated allergic responses, thereby reducing symptoms like hay fever (allergic rhinitis), allergic asthma, and allergic conjunctivitis. [7, 5] For diagnosis, it is administered via percutaneous skin prick testing. For immunotherapy, it is given through subcutaneous injections. [1] First approved in the United States in 1941, it is regulated as a non-standardized allergenic extract under a Biologic License Application (BLA). A number of companies manufacture this extract, including Jubilant HollisterStier, Antigen Laboratories, ALK-Abello, and Allergy Laboratories. [1] One specific formulation, CENTER-AL, is an alum-precipitated version of the extract designed for subcutaneous immunotherapy. [4]
