Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acanthopanax senticosus extract is a plant-derived dietary supplement prepared from the root or stem of Acanthopanax senticosus, also known as Siberian ginseng or Eleutherococcus senticosus. It is widely used in East Asia as a traditional medicine and adaptogen, believed to invigorate qi, fortify the spleen, nourish the kidney, and alleviate fatigue. The extract contains multiple bioactive compounds including eleutherosides, polysaccharides, flavonoids, lignans, and triterpenoids. Key pharmacological properties include neuroprotection, anti-fatigue, immunomodulation, anti-inflammation, antitumor, and antioxidant effects. It has been studied in animal models for potential benefits in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, with mechanisms including modulation of the PI3K/AKT, insulin receptor, EGFR-RAS–RAF–MEK–ERK, MAPK, and p38-CREB signaling pathways, inhibition of monoamine oxidase B, reduction of oxidative stress and neuroinflammation, and improvement of brain–gut axis function[1][3][6].
