Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acarovac Quattro is an ultra-short course subcutaneous immunotherapy vaccine developed for the treatment of house dust mite (HDM) allergy, specifically perennial allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma. It is based on allergoids derived from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae (house dust mites), adsorbed onto a biodegradable depot adjuvant system composed of microcrystalline tyrosine (MCT) and monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL). This formulation builds upon Allergy Therapeutics' existing platforms, such as Pollinex Quattro and Acarovac Plus, aiming to improve patient convenience by reducing the number of injections required compared to traditional immunotherapies. The mechanism of action involves immunomodulation—specifically, inducing immune tolerance to HDM allergens through repeated controlled exposure, which leads to increased allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies and anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10 while reducing Th2-mediated responses such as IL-4 production. Clinical studies have shown improvements in symptom scores, quality of life measures, and high patient satisfaction with a favorable safety profile[1][2][5][6][9].
