Accordion Pill Zaleplon

Accordion Pill Zaleplon is an oral, extended-release formulation of the nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic zaleplon, engineered using the “Accordion Pill” gastric-retentive delivery platform to prolong residence in the stomach and provide a more sustained zaleplon plasma profile compared with immediate-release capsules. Zaleplon is a pyrazolopyrimidine sedative-hypnotic that selectively modulates the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor complex at the benzodiazepine omega-1 (BZ1) site on the alpha subunit, enhancing GABAergic inhibitory neurotransmission to promote sleep onset in patients with insomnia.[3][5] The Accordion Pill technology uses layered, expandable polymeric films that unfold in the stomach to release zaleplon gradually, with the goal of improving sleep maintenance while limiting next-morning residual effects relative to higher-dose immediate-release zaleplon.
