AccuHist DM

AccuHist DM is a multi-ingredient over-the-counter (OTC) combination medication used for the symptomatic relief of the common cold, influenza, allergies, and other respiratory conditions such as sinusitis and bronchitis. It contains four active small molecule components: brompheniramine maleate (an antihistamine), dextromethorphan hydrobromide (a cough suppressant), pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (a nasal decongestant), and guaifenesin (an expectorant). Brompheniramine acts as a competitive H1 receptor antagonist to alleviate allergic symptoms like sneezing and runny nose. Dextromethorphan acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla to elevate the cough threshold. Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic amine that stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa to produce vasoconstriction and reduce swelling. Guaifenesin increases the volume and reduces the viscosity of respiratory tract secretions, facilitating their removal. The product is primarily formulated for pediatric use as oral drops or syrup.
