Overview

This is a combination of four classes of antihypertensive drugs used to manage high blood pressure and related cardiovascular conditions. The combination includes: - **ACE inhibitors** (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors): These block the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. - **Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs)**: These block the action of angiotensin II at its receptor, also resulting in vasodilation and lower blood pressure. - **Beta blockers**: These reduce heart rate and cardiac output by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors, thereby lowering blood pressure. - **Calcium channel blockers**: These prevent calcium from entering cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells, causing relaxation of vessels and reduction in heart workload. Each class has a distinct mechanism but all contribute synergistically to lowering blood pressure. Such multi-drug regimens are often used for patients with resistant hypertension or those who do not achieve target pressures with fewer agents. This combination is not typically available as a single fixed-dose product but may be prescribed as separate medications taken together[1][2][5].
