Overview

ACE2-618-ABD is a **bioengineered, soluble form of human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2** (ACE2) comprising the first 618 amino acids of ACE2 fused to an albumin binding domain (ABD). This design increases the protein's plasma half-life compared to native ACE2. It functions as a **decoy receptor** for SARS-CoV-2, competitively binding the virus's spike protein with high affinity and neutralizing its ability to infect host cells. The drug has demonstrated preclinical efficacy in neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 infectivity in human kidney organoids and protecting against severe lung and kidney injury in mouse models, with a markedly prolonged duration of action compared to native soluble ACE2. The main therapeutic rationale is to prevent or mitigate COVID-19 and its complications via viral neutralization and modulation of the renin-angiotensin system[1][4][10].
