Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acebrobiz is a brand of acebrofylline (also known as ambroxol acefyllinate) developed and marketed by 3Biz Healthcare. It is an oral generic formulated medicine used for the treatment and management of respiratory tract disorders such as bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchitis. Acebrofylline is a hybrid molecule that combines theophylline-7-acetic acid (a bronchodilator) and ambroxol (a mucolytic). It works through a multi-pronged mechanism: it inhibits phosphodiesterases (PDE) to increase intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels, leading to airway smooth muscle relaxation and bronchodilation; it inhibits phospholipase A2 to reduce the synthesis of pro-inflammatory mediators like leukotrienes; and it stimulates surfactant production to reduce mucus viscosity and enhance mucociliary clearance.
