Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acent-D is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) aceclofenac (100 mg) and the antispasmodic agent drotaverine (80 mg). It is manufactured and marketed by Intra Labs in India. The combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of abdominal pain, muscle spasms, and cramps, such as those associated with primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps), renal colic, biliary colic, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Aceclofenac acts as a preferential inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis to alleviate pain and inflammation. Drotaverine is a selective phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor that increases intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in smooth muscle, leading to muscle relaxation and relief from spasms.
