Acediasulfone is designed to improve upon dapsone’s low water solubility by being more easily administered, often as a water-soluble salt. After administration, it is metabolized in the body to release dapsone, which inhibits bacterial folate synthesis by targeting dihydropteroate synthase—an enzyme essential for bacterial growth and replication.
