AceDoPC-DHA (1-acetyl,2-docosahexaenoyl-glycerophosphocholine) is a structured glycerophospholipid designed to efficiently deliver docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) to the brain. It serves as a stabilized analog of the physiological 2-DHA-lysophosphatidylcholine (2-DHA-lysoPC). The incorporation of an acetyl group at the sn-1 position prevents the migration of DHA from the sn-2 to the sn-1 position, thereby preserving the molecule's structural integrity and its affinity for brain-targeting transporters such as Mfsd2a. Developed with involvement from Hospices Civils de Lyon, AceDoPC-DHA is intended to overcome the limitations of standard DHA forms (like triglycerides) in crossing the blood-brain barrier. It has demonstrated neuroprotective properties in experimental models of ischemic stroke and is being investigated for its potential in Alzheimer's disease. Clinical research has focused on its bioavailability and metabolic pathways in humans compared to other lipidic forms of DHA.
