Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AcellFX is a human acellular amniotic membrane (hAAM) product designed for the repair and regeneration of the ocular surface. Originally developed and marketed by Akorn Operating Company and subsequently acquired by Théa Pharma, it is classified as a human cells, tissues, and cellular and tissue-based product (HCT/P). The membrane is processed to remove the epithelium and chorion layers, resulting in an acellular scaffold that minimizes the risk of immune response while retaining essential regenerative biofactors, including collagen types III, IV, and V, fibronectin, laminin, and proteoglycans. AcellFX is indicated for the treatment of various corneal and conjunctival conditions, such as keratitis, corneal ulcers, ocular trauma, recurrent corneal erosions, and severe dry eye disease. It is supplied as shelf-stable circular disks in multiple sizes (5mm, 8mm, and 10mm) and is typically applied to the ocular surface under a bandage contact lens to facilitate tissue healing and re-cellularization.
