Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acer negundo pollen extract is derived from the pollen of the box elder tree (Acer negundo), a species of maple native to North America. It is a well-known aeroallergen that triggers seasonal allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and asthma in sensitized individuals. The extract is used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. For diagnosis, it is used in skin prick tests and specific IgE blood tests (allergen code T1) to confirm sensitivity. As a therapeutic agent, it is administered via allergen immunotherapy, either as subcutaneous injections (allergy shots) or sublingual drops, to induce immune tolerance and reduce allergy symptoms upon natural exposure. Various manufacturers supply non-standardized allergenic extracts containing Acer negundo pollen for this purpose.
