Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acesulfame potassium (Ace-K) and aspartame are non-nutritive sweeteners commonly used in combination to replace added sugars in reduced- or low-calorie foods and beverages. Both sweeteners are approximately 200 times sweeter than table sugar. When combined, they provide a synergistic sweetening effect with improved taste profile, as acesulfame K delivers a fast, strong release of sweetness while aspartame provides a more sustained sweetness. This combination helps mask the bitter aftertaste that acesulfame K can have when used alone. The blend is heat stable, making it suitable for use in baked goods and hot beverages. Studies have shown that consumption of this sweetener combination may lead to reduced energy intake compared to sugar and water controls.
