Overview

Norel AD is an FDA-approved, over-the-counter (OTC) combination drug manufactured by U.S. Pharmaceutical Corporation. It is formulated as a multilayer oral tablet containing acetaminophen (325 mg), chlorpheniramine maleate (4 mg), and phenylephrine hydrochloride (10 mg). The drug is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, influenza, allergies, and sinusitis, including nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sinus headache, fever, and minor aches and pains. Mechanistically, it combines the analgesic and antipyretic effects of acetaminophen, the antihistaminic properties of chlorpheniramine (a first-generation H1 receptor antagonist), and the decongestant action of phenylephrine (an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist).
