Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Faracold is an oral combination tablet developed by Farabi Pharmaceutical Company for the symptomatic relief of the common cold and influenza in adults. It contains three active ingredients: acetaminophen (an analgesic and antipyretic), dextromethorphan hydrobromide (a cough suppressant), and phenylephrine hydrochloride (a nasal decongestant). Acetaminophen acts primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system to reduce fever and pain. Dextromethorphan acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla to suppress non-productive coughs. Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that induces vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing nasal congestion and sinus pressure.
