Overview

Best medical care-University Hospital, Montpellier refers to the standard-of-care control arm protocol used in the DIVE-IIH (Direct Intracranial Venous Stenting in Early IIH) clinical trial. This regimen consists of the pharmacological administration of acetazolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, combined with behavioral weight loss interventions. Acetazolamide works by reducing the production of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by the choroid plexus, thereby lowering intracranial pressure. Weight loss is recommended as it is known to reduce intra-abdominal pressure and improve venous return, which further helps in managing idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). This protocol is used as the comparator against venous sinus stenting in patients with newly diagnosed IIH.
