Drug intelligence / Profile preview
acetoxy-dihydro-artemisinin (also known as TF 1) is a semi-synthetic artemisinin derivative developed by Vichem Chemie Research in collaboration with the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. It is a small molecule trioxane derivative that exhibits antimalarial activity against *Plasmodium falciparum* and has also been investigated for potential antiparasitic activity against *Schistosoma mansoni*. Like other artemisinin-class compounds, its mechanism of action is believed to involve the cleavage of its endoperoxide bridge by intraparasitic iron, generating cytotoxic free radicals that damage parasite proteins and membranes. It is currently in preclinical development.
