Acetyl-aspartyl ferritin is an iron-protein complex used for the treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia. It consists of ferritin, a natural iron-storage protein, that has been chemically modified with acetyl-aspartyl groups to enhance its stability and gastrointestinal tolerability. Developed by Aesculapius Farmaceutici, the drug is designed to release trivalent iron (Fe3+) in the alkaline environment of the small intestine, thereby minimizing the gastric irritation and metallic taste often associated with traditional oral iron salts. It is primarily administered as an oral solution and has been evaluated in clinical trials for its efficacy and safety compared to other iron formulations like iron proteinsuccinylate.
