Overview

Acetyl hexapeptide-3 is a synthetic peptide, also known as Argireline, primarily used as an anti-wrinkle ingredient in cosmetic products. It is a fragment of SNAP25 (synaptosome-associated protein 25), which is involved in the SNARE complex responsible for synaptic vesicle exocytosis and neurotransmitter release. By acting as a competitive inhibitor of SNAP25, acetyl hexapeptide-3 inhibits the formation of the SNARE complex, thereby reducing acetylcholine exocytosis at neuromuscular synapses. This mechanism leads to reduced muscle contraction and relaxation of facial muscles, mimicking some effects of botulinum toxin (Botox) but via topical application. The compound has been investigated for its ability to reduce facial wrinkles and improve skin appearance[1][2][3][4][5][6].
