Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Acetylcysteine + doxofylline** is an oral fixed-dose respiratory drug combination containing acetylcysteine 1,200 mg and doxofylline 400 mg in an effervescent tablet. It was developed by Neutec for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Acetylcysteine is a mucolytic and antioxidant precursor that reduces disulfide bonds in airway mucus, lowering sputum viscosity and aiding clearance. Doxofylline is a xanthine-derived bronchodilator with phosphodiesterase-inhibitory activity that increases cyclic nucleotide signaling and promotes airway smooth-muscle relaxation. The combination was evaluated in a completed Phase 4 trial in stable moderate-to-severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
