**Acetylglycinamide chloral hydrate** is an orally administered sedative-hypnotic molecular complex containing chloral hydrate and N-acetylglycine in a 1:1 ratio. It is classified in the WHO ATC system as an aldehyde and derivative hypnotic and sedative. Its central nervous system depressant activity is attributed principally to the chloral-hydrate component and its active metabolite trichloroethanol, which potentiates gamma-aminobutyric acid-mediated chloride currents at gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptors.
