Drug intelligence / Profile preview
acetylsalicylic acid + ascorbic acid is a fixed-dose combination drug containing acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), an NSAID with analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C), an antioxidant. It is primarily used to treat pain, fever, inflammation, and to potentially minimize aspirin-induced gastric mucosal injury. Preclinical and human studies suggest that the combination has enhanced antitumor (anti-cancer) and neuroprotective effects relative to aspirin or vitamin C alone, attributed to additive antioxidant actions and modulation of receptor expression (notably NMDA and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors), oxidative stress markers, and potentially cyclooxygenase pathways. Effervescent formulations (e.g., Aspirin C) are used orally. Developers and manufacturers include Bayer and others.
