Trinomia is a cardiovascular polypill — a fixed-dose combination drug in a single capsule — developed by Ferrer Internacional in partnership with the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC). It contains three active ingredients: the antiplatelet agent aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid, 100 mg), the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor ramipril (2.5, 5, or 10 mg), and the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor atorvastatin (20 or 40 mg). Trinomia is indicated for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in adult patients with established cardiovascular disease, such as those recovering from a myocardial infarction or acute coronary syndrome, and addresses cardiovascular risk factors including hypertension and dyslipidemia. The efficacy of Trinomia was demonstrated in the landmark SECURE trial, which showed a 33% reduction in cardiovascular mortality compared to standard treatment, leading to its inclusion in the WHO List of Essential Medicines in 2023. It is approved by European Regulatory Authorities and is commercially available in 25 countries.
