Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aspaco is an oral fixed-dose combination drug containing acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), paracetamol (acetaminophen), and codeine phosphate. Developed and marketed by Bioeel in Romania, it is indicated for the short-term symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, toothaches, muscle or joint pain, dysmenorrhea, and febrile conditions. The combination leverages three distinct mechanisms of action: acetylsalicylic acid acts as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes; paracetamol provides additional analgesic and antipyretic effects, likely through central cyclooxygenase inhibition; and codeine acts as a weak opioid receptor agonist to alter the perception of pain. Aspaco is approved and available as an over-the-counter (OTC) medication.
