Overview

Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and lidocaine is a combination of two well-established drugs. Acetylsalicylic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works primarily by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes COX‑1 and COX‑2, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain, inflammation, and fever. It also inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking thromboxane A2 production. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic and class Ib antiarrhythmic agent that acts by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal cell membranes, preventing action potential propagation and thus providing local anesthesia or antiarrhythmic effects[2][4][5][8]. This combination may be used for symptomatic relief where both analgesic/anti-inflammatory effects (from aspirin) and local anesthesia (from lidocaine) are desired.
