Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two small molecule drugs, acetylsalicylic acid (commonly known as aspirin) and loperamide. Acetylsalicylic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), leading to decreased synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxane A2, which results in analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and antiplatelet effects[6]. Loperamide is an antidiarrheal agent that acts as an agonist at mu-opioid receptors in the gut wall to slow intestinal motility and increase absorption of fluids and electrolytes; it does not cross the blood-brain barrier at therapeutic doses[8]. This combination would theoretically provide both symptomatic relief from pain/fever/inflammation (aspirin) and control of diarrhea (loperamide). There are no widely recognized or marketed pharmaceutical products containing this exact combination.
