Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acidomix is a specialized line of organic acid-based feed additives developed by Novus International for the livestock and aquaculture industries. These formulations typically comprise a synergistic blend of organic acids, such as formic and propionic acids, along with their salts like ammonium formate. The primary mechanism of action involves the acidification of both the feed and the animal's gastrointestinal tract. By lowering the pH, Acidomix creates an environment that inhibits the proliferation of pH-sensitive pathogenic bacteria, including *Salmonella* and *Escherichia coli*, while simultaneously supporting the growth of beneficial lactic acid-producing bacteria. Furthermore, the undissociated forms of the organic acids can penetrate bacterial cell walls and disrupt internal metabolic processes. This dual action helps to prevent foodborne pathogens, improve gut health, and enhance nutrient absorption and growth performance in poultry, swine, and aquatic species.
