ACIERT

ACIERT is an extended-release formulation of acipimox, a nicotinic acid derivative developed by Jilin Tianheng Pharmaceutical. It is indicated for the treatment of lipid disorders, including hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and type IIb hyperlipoproteinemia. Acipimox acts as an antilipolytic agent by serving as an agonist for the hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCAR2, also known as GPR109A) in adipose tissue. This activation inhibits the release of free fatty acids, thereby reducing the hepatic synthesis of triglycerides and very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), which subsequently leads to a reduction in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. The extended-release formulation is designed to provide sustained therapeutic levels and potentially mitigate side effects such as cutaneous flushing commonly associated with immediate-release nicotinic acid analogs.
