Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acitazanolast is a small molecule mast cell stabilizer and leukotriene receptor antagonist developed by Wakamoto Pharmaceutical. It is an active metabolite of tazanolast. Formulated as a 0.1% ophthalmic solution, acitazanolast is approved and marketed in Japan for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. It exerts its anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects by stabilizing mast cells, preventing the influx of calcium ions required for degranulation, and inhibiting the release of chemical mediators such as histamine and leukotrienes.
