Aclacinomycin + cytarabine (AA) is a chemotherapy combination used primarily in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), particularly in refractory/relapsed cases. This regimen is often combined with other agents such as decitabine (forming the DAC regimen) or granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF, forming the CAG regimen). The combination works by accelerating malignant cell apoptosis and terminating malignant cloned cell growth. Cytarabine is a nucleoside analog that interferes with DNA synthesis, while aclacinomycin (also known as aclarubicin) is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates with DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II.
