Overview

Aclaramycin is an antibiotic compound belonging to the anthracycline class, structurally related to other antibiotics such as doxorubicin and daunorubicin. It is produced by certain Streptomyces species. Aclaramycin exhibits antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria, by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis through intercalation into DNA and inhibition of topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase). Its primary use has been in research settings rather than clinical practice, and it is not widely marketed or approved for human therapeutic use.
