Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Acoin** is a historical fixed-dose topical local-anaesthetic formulation developed by Combustin for surface anaesthesia of mucous membranes, including use before diagnostic bronchoscopy. The formulation contains tetracaine and polidocanol. Tetracaine is an ester local anaesthetic that reversibly blocks voltage-gated sodium channels, preventing action-potential propagation in sensory nerves; polidocanol contributes local anaesthetic and mucosal-soothing effects. A Phase 3 German study compared Acoin with tetracaine alone in adults undergoing bronchoscopy.
